Dr. Annabel Latham is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and the Information Systems Curriculum Leader in the School of Computing, Mathematics & Digital Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University. Annabel’s research interests under the Computational Intelligence lab at MMU include conversational agents, intelligent tutoring systems, agent intelligence and knowledge engineering.

 

Annabel leads the School’s Athena SWAN project, aimed at changing culture and promoting a gender balance in Computer Science. Annabel was awarded the Elsevier Certificate of Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing, dated Dec-16, in recognition of the contributions made to the quality of the Computers and Education journal.

Annabel is professionally recognised as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), affiliate member of the British Computer Society (BCS), and a member of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and the IEEE Women in Engineering Society. Annabel is Chair of the IEEE UK and Ireland Women in Engineering (2019) and the IEEE CIS Graduate Student Research Grants subcommittee (2019). She is an active committee member of the IEEE CIS Education committee (2017-2019), IEEE Women in Computational Intelligence Group (2012-/2019) and IEEE CIS Educational Materials (2019).

Annabel was Vice-Chair of the IEEE UK and Ireland Women in Engineering (2016-2018), Chair of the IEEE CIS Education Multimedia subcommittee (2017-2018) and a committee member of IEEE CIS Educational Materials (2017-18), IEEE CIS Student Activities (2016/2017), IEEE CIS Social Media (2013/2014/2015/2016), IEEE CIS Pre-College Activities (2014/2015) and the IEEE CIS Affective Computing Task Force (2012) which aims to promote affective computing research.
